Integrated Recycling & Energy Recovery with IMERF
At Enventix, we’ve partnered with industry leaders in materials separation and recycling to drive transformative change in waste management. Together, we’re pioneering the development of Integrated Material and Energy Recovery Facilities, IMERFs, which are designed to address the challenges of achieving zero waste from municipal solid waste (MSW) streams.
A Sustainable Solution for MSW
IMERF facilities provide a comprehensive approach to converting MSW to valuable products and diverting unheard of proportions from landfills. IMERFs include a combination of advanced technology and proven processes:
Materials Recovery
Sorts and separates incoming waste, extracting recyclable plastics, paper, metals, and organic materials like food and yard waste
Anaerobic Digestion
Treats wet organics, including food and yard waste, to extract biogas as a renewable energy source and digestate that is sent to Enpresso for further energy recovery
Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF)
Unrecyclable plastics and paper are converted into a solid fuel, creating a circular economy from waste otherwise landfilled.
Enpresso Energy Recovery
Employs advanced thermo-catalytic conversion to SRF and digestate, producing sustainable energy and chemicals
Enventix's Enpresso Energy Conversion
Enpresso generates clean, renewable energy right at the site of waste processing or waste generation. Enpresso‘s conversion process is a technological breakthrough that safely purifies the hydrocarbons from unrecyclable paper and plastic as well as the residual digestate from anaerobic digestion. Enpresso generates renewable energy without harmful emissions at efficiencies never before yielded.
Our technology breaks barriers of cost, efficiency, reliability, feedstock flexibility, and scale to bring cities closer toward making zero waste a reality. Our team can configure Enpresso to produce liquid biofuel, chemicals and hydrogen, or electricity. The process also sequesters carbon for the long term by producing solid biocarbon.
The valuable products produced by Enpresso offset the use of fossil fuels while avoiding landfilling of unrecyclable materials.
IMERF Plants
Depending on the size, local prices for commodity, electricity, biogas, compost and tipping fees and the financing structure, the payback period expected for a plant ranges from two to six years.
Enventix and our MRF development partner, Zero Waste Energy, can manage the project from start through all of the stages of development, construction, commissioning and operation. We also offer the option of design-build, and we can assist in the securing of project finance through public-private partnerships. Depending on the size and scope of the IMERF and geographic location, we contract an Engineering, Procurement and Construction firm.
Technology Providers
The IMERF involves several conventional and advanced technologies including materials handling, mechanical separation, pneumatic separation, magnetic separation, eddy current, screening, optical sensing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, robotics, biological treatment of organics, air filtration, gaseous fuel cleaning and upgrading, combustion, emissions control and power generation.
Companies that contribute to the design and supply equipment for the IMERF:
Enventix and our partners can conduct a preliminary feasibility study for developing an IMERF for your city. We will analyze your local conditions and help you determine the route to achieving zero waste to landfill.
